In September 2019, the Sunnies Studio Marketing Team wanted to hold a design workshop for their whole office.

Everyone has the capacity for creativity

In conceptualizing the workshop format we asked: How can we push a design-thinking mindset that everyone can use? How can we facilitate creative solutions that Sunnies can employ in their day-to-day operations? This is why our workshop involved the entire Sunnies team. We wanted to include teams from other departments who weren’t strictly creatives.

“We learned how everyone in the team has a connection to each other’s solutions. There are solutions to all our problems, if we just take the time to think about it”

Communal ideating and prototyping

After a quick lecture on the creative mindset and processes, we divided the Sunnies participants into small groups. We asked them: What is a workplace solution that can help you work better? What are office problems that can be solved with creative solutions?

Tackling a specific problem, each group presented a prototype. These ranged from anywhere to spaces, software, and services. The workshop also became a space for peer feedback and to process the pressing issues that were going on in the Sunnies office.

“You can create and find design in everything.”

Giving creative teams the space to be heard

Even as we ideated with the teams, the most valuable takeaway was the importance of giving teams the mechanisms to voice out their concerns in safe spaces. Learning about the perspectives across the many departments allows for greater empathy and cooperation, which are just some of the things necessary for team trust.
